Why I Build What I Build

By Ole Aamot

In a world overwhelmed by data, control systems, and commercial surveillance, I choose something else.

I choose freedom.
I choose transparency.
I choose responsibility.

This is not just a philosophy. It’s my daily practice, embedded in every line of code, every line of poetry, and every tool I release through Aamot Research. Below is my personal manifesto – a declaration of what I believe in, what I stand for, and why I build.

🧭 Personal Source Code – Ole Aamot

Aamot Research – For freedom, insight, and human dignity

1. I believe in freedom.

Freedom of speech is the foundation of truth.
I develop software and artistic tools that give people a voice – not surveillance.
Where states censor, my technology documents.
Where algorithms suppress, my code liberates.

2. I believe in openness.

I build with open source and open standards.
My systems can be examined, improved, and shared.
No hidden agenda. No backdoors.
Transparency builds trust.

3. I believe in justice.

History shows that those who sacrifice most often receive the least.
From war sailors to whistleblowers, from outcasts to forgotten scholars –
I listen to the voices the system ignored.
I write code, texts, and sounds for them.

4. I believe in the human before the machine.

Artificial intelligence should support creativity, not replace it.
Technology should protect people, not control them.
I don’t write for likes. I write for life.
A living person is always more important than a functioning system.

5. I believe in documentation.

To document is to remember.
To remember is to prevent repetition.
My applications for sound, maps, and archives aren’t just data tools –
They are about memory, place, pain, and hope.
The digital is human.

6. I believe in resistance.

I fight with code, pen, and guitar.
Against indifference. Against lies. Against those who claim to own the truth.
I believe in the right to ask questions –
And in the responsibility that comes with it.

💬 Therefore, I promise:

  • I will never develop technology that oppresses.
  • I will never trade away my ethical compass for profit.
  • I will build for freedom, truth, and community – even when it costs.

I am Ole Aamot.
I am a human being in resistance.
I am free software in motion.

This is not the end.
It’s a beginning.
Let’s build something true together.
