One of the projects I enjoyed developing for GNOME is GNOME Voice —a Free Software application for recording, playing back, and sharing voice recordings on the GNOME desktop.
Alongside GNOME Voice, I also developed Voicegram, an open XML-based metadata format for voice recordings. The idea was to store not only the audio itself, but also structured information such as the recording time, title, description, and, where appropriate, geographic location.
The goal was to explore how open standards and Free Software could make voice recordings easier to organize, search, and share while allowing users to retain control over their own data.
Although artificial intelligence has advanced dramatically in recent years, open formats and Free Software continue to provide an important foundation for future innovations in speech, audio, and communication technologies.
